ODS Statistical Graphics: How You SHOULD Be Developing Your SAS® Apps

SAS® has always been proclaimed by its competitors as trailing other applications in areas such as graphics. In particular, graphical analysis of data has always been a problem area, and manipulation or adjustment of graphs has always been more limited than some other statistical analysis and graphics packages. That is changing with ODS Statistical Graphics in SAS 9.1.3 and SAS 9.2, not to mention the other new graphical features introduced in SAS 9.2. As a result, any application development process has new tools to facilitate the development of analyses, plots, and charts. This will be illustrated with a basic cost modeling example. We will look at building a standard statistical plot with an information box at the side. We will show how to use ODS Statistical Graphics and ODS statements to build such charts for multiple facilities. We will also look at how to work with multiple destinations, since the exact same graphs that are needed in PDF formats are also likely to be needed for company webpages or in acceptable formats for documents and presentations.
